C is for Content
The A-Z of being in business during tough times
If you’re struggling to come up with new and crafty content for your website and social media channels at the moment, don’t be hard on yourself. The COVID-19 Pandemic and imminent threat of a recession is a strange time for businesses, to say the least. What’s important is keeping your brand at the forefront of people’s minds, so when things start to go back to “normal”, clients + customers won’t have to think twice about heading to your business and buying your product or service.
Some businesses have used quarantine to rest and recover, especially if they’ve been super busy in the weeks and months prior to Coronavirus rearing its ugly head. And while this is a great way to recharge the batteries and get some more energy in the tank before business kicks back up again, you might be making it extra hard on yourself to entice clients + customers once the R&R is over. So a few of my biggest tips would have to be…
Don’t go silent on social media
With more time on our hands than ever before, it’s only natural that more people would be scrolling through Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest in record numbers. I know it’s tempting to take a break from EVERYTHING right now, but hear me out. Social media opens up a whole new marketplace when attracting new customers + clients. You have a captivated audience wanting to consume as much content as they can at any given time. It makes sense that you’d want to try and tap into this seemingly unlimited supply of consumers.
Take a look back in time
Now is a better time than any to dig deep into your archives and do an audit on all of your marketing, website and social media content from as far back as you’re willing to go. Can you see any growth in the content you were creating at the very start of your business to now? Are there any obvious or subtle trends? Hopefully you can see your content evolving and improving over time. Whether it’s the graphics and images, or your branding and copywriting. And if it feels a bit stuck and stagnant, take notice and start brainstorming ways you can breathe new life into it once again.
Inspiration is everywhere
What are other businesses doing right now? There’s no harm in taking some inspiration from what other people are creating at the moment. You can always bring your own ideas, thoughts and personality to it and make it your own. Sure there are a handful of innovative and groundbreaking people out there, but the overwhelming majority of the time, content ideas are constantly being recycled. What’s important is the special spin you put on those ideas to make them unique to you and your brand, and what you can offer your customers + clients.
Don’t be afraid to try new things
Speaking of innovation and being ahead of the game, if you’ve got an idea you can’t seem to shake, there’s no harm exploring and experimenting. And this can be as grand and over-the-top as you want it to be, or as simple as they come. If you’re completely new to social media, you might be starting from scratch and think it’s a good time to get your business on Facebook. The key is to be okay with getting outside your comfort zone. Good things come from change and trying new things. And the beauty of it all, is if it doesn’t work out, just go back to what you were doing before.
